Why do we still talk to our loved ones after loss? It's a question many grieving people quietly ask themselves. Even after someone we love is gone, we often find ourselves wanting to tell them about our day, share good news, or hear their voice just one more time. If I could have one more conversation with you, I often wonder what I would say.

Would I tell you about the big things?

The milestones you've missed.

The family gatherings.

The graduations, weddings, birthdays, and holidays that have come and gone.

Or would I tell you about the ordinary things?

The funny story that made me laugh.

The song that reminded me of you.

The beautiful sunset I wished you could see.

So, Why Do We Still Talk to Our Loved Ones After Loss

The truth is, grief doesn't end our desire to share life with the people we love.

Even after they are gone, we continue talking to them in our hearts.

We see something that would have made them smile and instinctively think, I can't wait to tell them.

Then we remember...

And for a moment, the ache returns.

There are still things I wish I could tell Melanie.

There are moments when I wish I could pick up the phone and hear her voice on the other end. Moments when I wish I could tell her how much she is still loved, how often she is remembered, and how deeply she is missed.

But perhaps love has its own way of keeping those conversations alive.

Every time we tell their stories, share their memories, or speak their name, we continue the connection that death could not take away.

The relationship changes, but the love remains.

Giving Unspoken Words a Place to Land

If there are things you wish you could say to your loved one today, don't keep them locked inside your heart.

Write them down.

Say them out loud.

Put them in a journal.

Share them in a letter.

Love has always needed somewhere to go.

And sometimes healing begins when we give those unspoken words a place to land.

Because even though they are no longer here to answer, the love behind our words is still very much alive.
