Scars Become Stories

While attending my women’s group I heard something that really resonated with me: Wounds become scars and scars become stories. Wow! This is spot on for how God has directed my path since Melanie ran ahead to Heaven. Although wounds do become scars, those scars become stories. I truly believe we are meant to share our stories with one another. By doing so, they offer hope to others along the way.

I’ve been thinking a lot about healing and restoration recently. Although grief is something that will remain with us for our lifetime, I have found it so helpful and hopeful, when I hear from others who are further down the road than me. It reminds me of the scripture from 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 that says, “Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts and encourages us in every trouble so that we will be able to comfort and encourage those who are in any kind of trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God” (AMP). As I continue sharing my story and experiences, I hope it will encourage those who may be on the front end of the grief journey, or simply those who are just having a hard day.
My friend, Jill Sullivan, the founder of While We’re Waiting, has been doing a bonus series about the life of her daughter Hannah. I love how she says, “My desire is to process through the events from the perspective 16 years has brought and to point listeners to Jesus with hope along the way.” As I have listened to each episode, her long-term perspective inspires me and has often given me the fortitude to keep pressing on.
A few years ago, I wrote this post, Healing and Restoration, which is still valid today. By sharing it again I hope it gives you a reassurance and confidence to see that even if you’ve been wounded, your scars become stories. Healing and restoration is absolutely possibly – even in the midst of the grief journey. As Jill says at the end of each episode, God is good all the time.
