When Our Faith Feels Fragile

When the loss of someone we love turns our world upside down, and when our faith feels fragile, grief has a way of shaking us at the core. We may find ourselves asking questions we never imagined we’d ask: Where are You, God? Why did this happen? How do I go on from here?

It can be unsettling to realize that the faith which once felt strong now trembles under the weight of sorrow. But I want to remind you—fragile faith is still faith. Even when our prayers are broken whispers or our doubts seem louder than our trust, God does not turn away from us. He leans in closer.
I remember seasons when opening my Bible felt impossible and prayers seemed to get stuck in my throat. Yet, in those very seasons, God’s presence was nearer than I realized. Looking back, I see how He carried me, even when I didn’t have the strength to stand. His Word promises, “A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out” (Isaiah 42:3). That verse tells me that God is gentle with us in our weakness. He doesn’t demand that our faith be unshakable—He simply asks that we bring Him what little we have.
Over time, I discovered that God can handle our questions, our doubts, and even our anger. He is not threatened by our fragile faith; He is the One who strengthens it. And often, the very cracks left by grief become the places where His light shines through most clearly.

If you find yourself struggling today, know this: God doesn’t love you less because your faith feels fragile. He treasures your honesty and meets you in the brokenness. He holds on to you when you cannot hold on to Him.
Grief may shake us, but it cannot separate us from the love of God. And even when our faith feels fragile, His faithfulness remains unshaken.
