Friends, while taking some time away with my family my dear friend and fellow blogger, Martha Wilson is my guest writer for this week. I believe you will be inspired and encouraged by her blog post today.

Driving through the storm to our beach destination did not look very promising. We cranked up the music and sang a little louder, even though the clouds grew darker. The forecast showed rain for the first three days and my heart filled with disappointment. Beach walking and shell searching were on my agenda, not sheltering in place on the cold, rainy deck.

As we settled into the beachside condo, I quickly set up my dwelling on the deck overlooking this majestic ocean. Beneath were towering palm branches where birds had also set up their dwelling. Though I was pouty over the weather, the birds decided to have a praise party instead.

What was the secret here? How do they sing in the middle of the storm?

I sat quietly and listened, and my heart caught up with their praises. Yes, the winds blew, and the waves pounded. The ocean swirled, and the rain poured, but nothing stopped the songbirds. They obviously knew that you don’t stop singing in the storm.

“I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to Him, as I rejoice in the Lord.”  Ps. 104:33-34

When life doesn’t go as expected, sing a little louder. When “sorrow like sea billows roll,” praise Him. When the dark clouds linger, raise a hallelujah.

I sang along when I realized my disappointment had turned to gratitude. I lifted my eyes, stared at the majesty of the ocean, and began to declare God’s goodness.

No matter the storm, sing. Give thanks. Stare at majesty.

“Lord, teach my heart to sing your praise no matter what storm I encounter. You are worthy of praise and thanksgiving. All creation worships you, and so will I. In Jesus name, Amen.”

“I’m gonna sing in the middle of the storm. Louder and louder, you’re gonna hear my praises roar. Up from the ashes, hope will arise. Death is defeated; the King is alive.”
