Grief is already a heavy companion, one that walks beside us long after the initial shock of loss has passed. For those of us who have experienced deep heartbreak, it doesn’t take much to stir that familiar ache again. When the world rekindles our grief with a news headline, a tragic story, or a violent act it can reopen wounds we thought were finally healing.

This past week, as our nation mourned so many horrific losses, many of us may have found our own sorrow rising to the surface. Our hearts break not only for the families involved but also for the reminder of what we ourselves have lost. Trauma—whether personal or collective—has a way of overlapping. It awakens emotions we thought were tucked away, and suddenly the tears fall again.
That’s the complicated reality of grief: it is not linear, nor is it ever truly “over.” We may be years down the road and then, in an instant, find ourselves overwhelmed by the same emotions that marked the earliest days of our loss. Tragedies in the world can act as mirrors, reflecting back to us our own pain.
And yet, even in this heaviness, we are not without hope. My friends, while grief can leave us weary, our faith provides a place of refuge. The God who promises to be near the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18) is the same God who lifts us up when we cannot stand on our own. He reminds us that though the world may be shaken, He is our steady foundation.

Leaning into our faith doesn’t mean pretending the pain isn’t real. It means admitting our weakness and allowing God to carry us. It means turning our gaze from the chaos of the world to the One who spoke peace into the storm. When the headlines weigh us down, His Word offers rest. When sorrow resurfaces, His Spirit offers comfort.
So today, as we grieve alongside our nation and remember the weight of our own personal losses, may we cling to the One who carries us. Because even when the world feels unbearably heavy, God’s love is stronger still. Take a moment and listen to the words of this song, letting it lift your hearts, reigniting comfort and peace.
