When Others Stop Remembering

Today would have been my dad's birthday.
While the date has been quietly sitting on my calendar, I realize most people around me have no idea.
And that's okay. Even if others may not remember, my heart always will.
It is simply one of the realities of grief.
As time passes, the world keeps moving forward. People return to their routines.
Conversations shift. Life becomes busy.
Meanwhile, those of us who are grieving continue carrying the memories, dates, and milestones that remain etched on our hearts.
We remember birthdays.
Anniversaries.
Favorite songs.
Special traditions.
The little things that once seemed ordinary but now feel priceless.
Sometimes that can feel lonely.
Not because others have intentionally forgotten, but because they haven't lived with the absence the way we have.
The people we love become part of our daily thoughts. We carry them into every season, every holiday, every milestone, and every ordinary Tuesday.
Others may not remember the date.
They may not realize why we're quieter than usual.
They may not know that today feels different.
But we know.
And perhaps that is one of the sacred responsibilities of love.
We remember.
We tell their stories.
We speak their names.
We carry forward the legacy they left behind.
The truth is, our loved ones were never meant to be remembered by everyone in the same way they are remembered by us.
We shared a unique relationship with them.
A unique love.
A unique bond.
And because of that, we become the keepers of their stories.
If today feels heavy because others seem to have forgotten, know that you are not alone.
Your remembering matters.
Your love matters.
And every time you pause to honor their memory, you are keeping a small piece of their story alive in the world.
That is no small thing.
That is love continuing.

I love the words "sacred responsibility of love"
Each of my parents passed away over a decade ago, but their birthdays and anniversary still have a powerful impact on my day. Thank you for the reminder of how precious those feelings and related memories are.
Real love!
