If you're grieving the loss of someone you love, you may wonder whether healing is ever really happening. The signs you are healing after grief are rarely dramatic. Most people expect healing to arrive all at once—that one day they'll wake up and suddenly feel better. But healing doesn't usually work that way.
We often think healing will arrive with a grand announcement.
That one day we'll wake up and suddenly feel better.
That grief will somehow disappear and we'll know we've finally healed.
But healing doesn't usually work that way.
More often, healing arrives quietly.
It slips into our lives through ordinary moments that are easy to overlook.
A genuine laugh that catches us by surprise.
A memory that brings a smile instead of tears.
The ability to talk about our loved one without feeling completely undone.
Making plans for next month.
Enjoying a cup of coffee on a peaceful morning.
Finding ourselves interested in life again.
None of these moments seem extraordinary.
Yet each one represents something significant.
They are signs that healing is taking place.
For a long time, I thought healing would mean no longer hurting.
I've since learned that healing and hurting can coexist.
I still miss Melanie.
I still wish she were here.
I still have moments when grief catches me off guard.
But alongside that grief, I have also found joy, purpose, gratitude, and hope.
That is healing.
Not the absence of sorrow.
But the presence of life alongside it.
Don't Overlook Your Progress
Sometimes we overlook our progress because it doesn't look dramatic enough.
We focus on the days we struggle and forget to notice how far we've come.
The truth is, every small step matters.
Every moment of courage matters.
Every time we choose to engage with life again matters.
If you are walking through grief today, take a moment to acknowledge the small victories.
Getting out of bed.
Taking a walk.
Calling a friend.
Laughing at a joke.
Making plans for tomorrow.
These may seem ordinary.
But they are not.
They are the ordinary miracles of healing.
And perhaps one day you will look back and realize that while grief changed your life forever, healing was quietly at work all along.
One ordinary miracle at a time.

Well said....inch by inch grief and peace exist together.....and a laugh now and then
Sage wisdom!❤️
