I imagine many of you think, “Phew, we made it! We managed to survive the holiday season.” As each Christmas passes, I realize I’m still standing. Still breathing. Still holding tight to the One who continues to hold me. Jesus is the cornerstone of each and every day of my life. I don’t know where I’d be if it weren’t for my faith. Since we are just days away from closing out another year, I want to share a list of New Year’s resolutions for the bereaved I came across a few years ago. They are encouraging reminders of how we can best care for ourselves.

This is the 4th year the calendar page will turn without Melanie being here with us. There will always be a void within our home and my heart – a place only she can fill. I miss her just as much today as the first day she ran ahead to Heaven. Thankfully, the grief isn’t like those early days, which felt like a heavy, wet blanket covering you. I’ve just learned how to live with the grief, and it has grown around me. Every new year without her makes me think I’m another year closer to seeing her. Just like you miss your loved one, I miss my daughter every day. Queen Elizabeth said it best, “Grief is the price we pay for love.” May these New Year’s resolutions for the bereaved touch your heart and help you as we get ready to turn the calendar page to 2024.

I just want to take a moment to thank you for following me throughout the year. It’s hard to believe this is our 4th year walking the grief journey together. Thank you for your kind comments, love, support and encouragement. We are all walking this road together, and I hope you continue to find hope and encouragement here.No matter how dark a day may seem, together, we can let a little light shine through the cracks of our broken hearts. You are never alone, and you are seen and understood here. There is always Hope During Loss. Love, Pat
