The Hard Questions

It’s been a challenging couple of months. It seems like one thing after another. I’m sure you all know what I mean. All of us have experienced times like this. It’s part of life. But it does lead me to ask some of the hard questions, like why do bad things happen to good people?

I realize that asking this opens up a whole Pandora’s Box. It’s an age-old question with answers that only sometimes satisfy.

Why are some parents estranged from their children? Why do some people get cancer? Why are some of us walking through the loss of a loved one, and why didn’t our children/spouse/parent/sibling live and not die?

As a Christian, I am grateful for my faith and understand that God can and will turn the bad things into something for His good. But when you’re walking through these challenging times, simply put – it stinks!

I’ve read all the posts and articles about how God doesn’t cause bad things to happen, but there are times when He allows them. Now, that’s one of the hard questions. Yet, I also know that our thoughts are not His thoughts, and His ways aren’t our ways (Isaiah 55:8), so we won’t always have an answer on this side of Heaven.

It does bring me comfort knowing I’ll see my daughter again, but there have been moments when I wondered why she wasn’t one of the many who were able to walk in her recovery.

No matter how your loved one died, we all feel the same. Grief is grief regardless of how they died. Loss hurts no matter the circumstances. But I’m sure you have each asked yourselves the hard questions as well.

When there are no answers, I return to Jesus’s feet. Pastor Rick Warren says, “You can either worship or worry. You can either pray or panic. It is our choice to rejoice.”

If you’ve been facing some challenges in life, remember that we live in a broken world. One day, there will come a time when there will be no more tears, sickness, or death. Pain in life is inevitable, as there is no such thing as a pain-free life. However, we can endeavor to use our pain and hardships to help others. I wish you a day of love and peace.
